Choosing the Right Material

What kind of gravel should I use for my driveway?

For most McNairy County driveways: a base of #2 or #3 crushed stone (about 4-6 inches), topped with 2-3 inches of crusher run or #57 limestone for the driving surface. Crusher run packs harder; #57 looks cleaner but stays a bit looser. If your driveway is just worn or thin, a 2-3 inch lift of crusher run on top of the existing surface is usually enough.

What is the difference between crusher run and #57?

Crusher run is a mix of crushed stone from about 1 inch down to dust, including all the fines. The fines fill voids between stones and let it compact hard. #57 is washed and screened to just the 1/2-inch to 1-inch clean stones, no fines. #57 drains better and looks cleaner; crusher run packs harder. Driveway base: crusher run. Drain field or French drain: #57.

What is the best gravel for a drain field?

Clean washed #57 limestone is the standard for septic drain field bedding. It is open enough to let effluent percolate through but small enough to support the perforated lines without crushing them.

River rock or mulch around my landscape beds?

Mulch is cheaper upfront and feeds the soil as it breaks down, but it needs replacing every year or two. River rock costs more upfront but lasts indefinitely. For high-traffic areas, drip lines, splash zones, or anywhere mulch keeps washing out, river rock is usually the better long-term call.

How Much & How Big

How many tons of gravel do I need?

Rough rule: 1 ton of crusher run covers about 80 square feet at 2 inches deep. A 12-foot-wide driveway 100 feet long at 2 inches needs about 15 tons. Tell us your dimensions when you call and we will figure the load.

How big is a tri-axle load?

A tri-axle dump truck holds about 20-22 tons depending on the material density. Standard single-axle and tandem dump trucks hold roughly 8-14 tons. Small 1-ton trucks for tight spots haul roughly 2-4 tons.

Is it cheaper to order one big load or two smaller ones?

One big load is almost always cheaper per ton, because the delivery fee is fixed and a tri-axle hauls more material per trip. But a tri-axle does not fit everywhere — tight driveways, soft yards, and low limbs sometimes force us to use a smaller truck or split into multiple trips.

Can a tri-axle fit down my driveway?

Depends on width, turning radius, overhead clearance, and ground conditions. We ask about your driveway when we quote, and we check the route before we send a tri-axle. If a tri-axle is risky, we use a smaller truck or split the load.

Delivery & Spreading

Will you spread the gravel or just dump it?

Both options. For most residential driveways we can tailgate-spread directly with the truck. For bigger or rougher jobs we follow with a skid steer or tractor box-blade. If you would rather spread it yourself, we can just dump the pile where you want it. Ask when you call — we will quote either way.

How fast can you deliver?

Most loads we can deliver within a few days. Same-week is typical for routine jobs. Tighter timelines we will work to fit when possible.

Do you deliver outside McNairy County?

Sometimes — we occasionally take work in adjacent Hardin, Chester, Hardeman, and Tishomingo (MS) counties when the route works out. Call and ask. We may be able to fit your job into a McNairy delivery run.

Can you deliver on Saturday?

Sometimes, depending on the week. Saturday loads usually cost slightly more than weekday loads because of overtime. Ask when you call.

Driveway Issues & Pricing

My driveway is full of potholes. Will fresh gravel fix it?

Not by itself. Potholes mean the surface or base has failed. Pouring fresh gravel into potholes is a short-term fix that comes back. The real fix is to grade the driveway, fill the low spots, re-establish the crown so water sheds, and then top with fresh stone. We handle that.

My driveway washes out every time it rains. What do I do?

Wash-out means water is running down the driveway instead of across it. The fix is usually some combination of: re-establishing the crown, adding a culvert across a low point, building a small diversion upslope, or reinforcing the shoulder where the water hits. We diagnose and quote the fix when we look at the driveway.

How much does a load of gravel cost?

It depends on the material, load size, delivery distance, and whether we are spreading. Crusher run is the most affordable; #57 costs more; river rock and decorative stone cost the most. We give a written quote after we know what you are working on. See our Free Quote page for how that works.

Do you take credit cards?

Yes. Cash, check, and major credit cards. For larger projects we typically take a deposit at scheduling and balance on completion.
